Losing to Messi, Mo Salah Was Surprised that He Only Won 7th Place in the 2021 Ballon d’Or

The 2021 Ballon d’Or awards have passed and will be held on November 29, 2021. The result – surprisingly – Argentine superstar Lionel Messi won the seventh Ballon d’Or of his career.

The result raised pros and cons, because even though Messi won the Copa America with the Argentine national team, La Pulga experienced ups and downs with Barcelona in the 2020-2021 season.

Messi beat Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Karim Benzema. One interesting thing is the final position of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah who only finished seventh in the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

Judging from his consistency with Liverpool, who have won the Champions League and Premier League titles, consistently scored goals and brought the Reds as Manchester City’s competitive rivals in the league, Mo Salah’s seventh position surprised many people.

The player in question is no exception. Mo Salah was surprised and according to him many were also surprised by the position.

“It surprised me (the position in the 2021 Ballon d’Or), but there’s nothing I can say. Nobody in the world thought I would be seventh, but that’s what happened,” Salah said on Egyptian TV and channel DMC.

The 29-year-old player was even judged by FIFA to be not good enough to be in the FIFA World XI or the Best FIFA Line-up, not to be included in the top 23 names along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Lewandowski, and Messi.

Mo Salah did not want to talk further and judged that there was a conspiracy in FIFA World XI.

“I don’t feel a conspiracy theory, but there may be inaccurate choices, and there are many countries that are not popular with football knowledge and so far from it. I don’t know what their choice is based on, but I don’t believe in conspiracy theories,” Salah added.

“I don’t have the feeling that there is anything personal against me especially in FIFA’s choice, but this is the reality we face.”

Lastly, Salah also does not regret it because according to him he has won everything in his career at club level, as well as the honor of defending the Egyptian national team.

“There are no words to describe how I feel about people’s positive comments towards me or be a reason for their hopes. Today, if I die, it will be after achieving many things I wanted to achieve,” added Salah.

“People don’t realize how happy I was when I came to play for the national team, it’s an honor for me to wear the uniform of the national team.”

“The most important match I played in my life was the 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Congo, my happiness after the winning goal is indescribable,” he explained.
