Man City’s Crazy Record after Defeating Borussia Mochengladbach
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester City managed to set a crazy record after silencing Borussia Mochengladbach in the first leg of the 2020/21 Champions League last 16.
Playing at home to opponents was apparently unable to stop Manchester City’s strength, which managed to beat Borussia Monchengladbach with a score of 2-0 in the first leg of the 2020/21 Champions League last 16, Thursday (25/02/21).
Two Man City goals were scored by Bernardo Silva (29′) and Gabriel Jesus (65′). A well-deserved win with City’s possession of the ball of 61 percent and nine attempts (four on target). Gladbach didn’t do anything about it.
For his goal, Silva has now scored 35 goals for Man City. An impressive record considering his position as an attacking midfielder. In the last six games City Silva has also been involved in five goals (three assists and two goals).
Another great record is Man City’s fantastic record after that victory. City became the first team to break a record of 12 consecutive away wins in all competitions after doing so (11 wins) in 2017.
Opta City added that it was also the first team to carve clean sheets in four consecutive away matches in the Champions League. The last team to do so was Manchester United in the 2010-2011 season.
The result also marked City’s 19th straight win in all competitions among Europe’s top five leagues. Now there are only two teams with a better record than City, namely Bayern Munich (23 consecutive wins) and Real Madrid (22 consecutive wins).
Phil Foden also stole the show. He made four appearances in the knockout stages of the Champions League before turning 21. Foden is the third player to do so after Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott.
“We played very well. We are not clinical enough up front with their good goalkeepers. We have to be more clinical in this competition,” said Guardiola after the game ended.
With City’s continued dominance in domestic and European competitions, it is interesting to wait for City’s progress to compete in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
