DBasia.news – Manchester United canceled their pre-season test against Preston North End on Saturday, following a number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the Red Devils squad.

The BBC reported that the discovery of the positive cases occurred during a routine test after facing Brentford on Wednesday (28/7/2021), which ended 2-2. It is not stated who has tested positive, but the MU member is now in isolation.

“As a precautionary measure based on COVID-19 protocols, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the friendly match against Preston North End this Saturday (July 31),” United said in a statement.

This condition has made Manchester United only have one test match remaining, namely facing Everton on August 7. A week later, Edinson Cavani and his team mates will immediately face the first week of the 2021/22 Premier League match against Leeds United at Old Trafford.

MU’s pre-season report card so far can be said to be ordinary. Of the three games that have been played, they have only won once, to be precise when they defeated Derby County. For the rest they were held to a draw by Brentford and lost to Queens Park Rangers.

United are not the first English team to cancel a test match due to the spread of COVID-19. Previously, there were Arsenal, Norwich City, and Nottingham Forest who experienced the same thing.

Newcastle United is a little different. Cases of COVID-19 has also occurred within the squad, but it only affected the first-team goalkeepers. As a result, they will undergo a test match against York on Sunday (1/8) later using goalkeepers from the junior team.

Returning to Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad has become one of the teams that has been widely discussed this summer, following the transfer policy carried out.

The Red Devils have managed to recruit Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, and the inauguration of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid is now just a matter of time.
