Manchester City becomes a strong candidate for the 2021/22 Premier League and breaks a new record

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The 2021-2022 Premier League has reached week 24 and a strong candidate for the champion has been seen. Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, have a great chance to win it again this season.

The Citizens topped the standings with 60 points from 24 matches with 19 wins, three draws and two defeats and scored 57 goals and conceded 14 goals. Most recently, City won 2-0 over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City is 12 points adrift of Liverpool, who are in second place with 48 points from 22 matches. Pep Guardiola is happy with the position and the points, but he doesn’t want his team to be called the best in the world.

“No, we are not the best team in the world. The best team is Chelsea who won the Champions League. The important thing is that in three days we will head to Norwich and have to win the game,” said Guardiola, quoted by ESPN.

“The thing about who is the best, I don’t care. Be happy, and try to play better every day and in the end we will see.”

“We are in a good position, 60 points at the moment. We have to qualify for the Champions League (next season) because that is the most important target and then arrive in the last few games to fight for the title. This is what I want to do,” he explained.

Record-Breaking Chance

The record of 100 points from 38 matches is the Premier League points record achieved by Man City four seasons ago. In the 2017-18 season City only failed to win six of 38 matches and lost once, and the club won 15 matches in a row.

City also broke the record for most goals and goal difference with 106 goals and 79+ goal difference at that time. City legend Sergio Aguero has scored 21 Premier League goals and is the third top scorer behind Mo Salah and Harry Kane.

With just 42 points up for grabs from 14 games remaining, City will have to win all of those games if they are to surpass the season record of 100 points. If so, City will have a new record of 102 points.

Judging by City’s performance and the depth of the squad they have, even without an additional striker, City can break this record if they continue to consistently maintain momentum, especially in dividing the focus in the rest of the competition that is followed.
