Manchester City lost to Liverpool

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Liverpool ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at Anfield, thanks to Mohamed Salah’s second-half goal.

The defeat could have been avoided if a goal from Phil Foden in the 53rd minute had not been ruled out by the match officials.

Unfortunately, the video assistant referee, or VAR, influenced the decision as it stated that Erling Haaland had fouled Fabinho when building an attack until it finally became a goal.

The City squad were furious with the decision in real-time, as was manager, Pep Guardiola, and it seems that sentiment continued long after the final whistle.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva criticized the match officials. “What we expect from the referee is consistency in decisions,” he stated.

“Just because it’s a challenging decision, you have to make [it] and set it a goal, in my opinion.”

Silva’s statement reflected the frustrated City atmosphere after the narrow loss at Anfield. The defeat left the reigning champions four points behind leaders, Arsenal, who extended their lead at the top with an away win over Leeds United.
