Manchester City won’t spend on players in January

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, estimates that Citizen’s management will not spend money on players in the winter transfer market which will open this weekend.

Man City is said to still need players in the wing-back sector with Kyle Walker, Joao Cancelo and Sergio Gomez being senior choices. The performance of the 18-year-old player, Rico Lewis, who is adequate, is still considered insufficient.

When mentioned about the possibility of Man City making another transfer in January, Guardiola revealed that this was not mentioned in a meeting with club officials in Abu Dhabi some time ago.

In a meeting with club chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and director of football Txiki Begiristain, Guardiola said no new names had been put on the table.

“I think not [purchasing players]. In my opinion, we will end it like this,” Guardiola said as quoted by the Manchester Evening News page.

“I don’t know what happened. But since I arrived in Abu Dhabi with the sporting director, with Tixiki and a few other people, there’s not a single name on the table.”

Man City is known for not spending players often in the winter transfer market. In January 2021, Man City spent over 14 million pounds to sign Julian Alvarez

But Alvarez only joined the team in the summer, having previously gone on loan to River Plate to finish his season with the Argentine club.

Alvarez’s January purchase was Man City’s first since they last signed Aymeric Laporte in the winter of 2018 by activating the centre-back’s 57 million pound release clause from Athletic Bilbao.
