Manchester United have many leader figures
By db-admin
DBasia.news – A number of issues has emerged when discussing Manchester United this season, whether it was when they were under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or when they were coached by Ralf Rangnick as they are today.
Under Rangnick Man United have improved defensively and have gone through 6 games in all competitions, but that doesn’t mean the problems are over. United’s performance is still uncertain.
United are able to play well and press tight like gegenpress in one game, but in another games they might appear poorly and play like in the 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, or like in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
One issue discussed was the lack of leadership within the Man United squad. Allegedly United have many senior players in the squad but can not be a leader for the young players.
Cristiano Ronaldo (37 years old) is a perfect example for young players, but Rangnick denies that only Ronaldo deserves to be a role model in the Red Devils squad.
“Not only him (Ronaldo), we also have Edinson (Cavani), Harry (Maguire), many other key senior players,” Rangnick said.
“David (De Gea), Victor (Lindelof), Bruno (Fernandes), we have quite a lot of experienced players. They can be role models not only in training, but also on the pitch, in matches and in the changing room as well.”
“Together this can also be done with coaches to away games, in hotels, this has to happen everywhere.”
“In the United team it has to happen automatically and I can only invite and challenge players to do it regularly. It will always help in the team, not more so in the group we have at the moment.”
Rangnick also emphasized that Harry Maguire’s United captaincy role is still held by Harry Maguire, even though Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes have only recently been captains in Maguire’s absence.
“Right now I see no reason to change that role,” Rangnick said. Harry has been captain and as long as he plays he will continue to do so, added Rangnick.
“If he doesn’t play Cristiano, obviously he will come in but this can change from game to game. As I said before, it all depends on who plays and who doesn’t.”
