Manchester United need new players
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Erik ten Hag says he wants new players this summer after Manchester United’s poor start to 2022-2023.
KO Brighton 2-1 in the opening match, the Red Devils sank further after being defeated by Brentford 4-0, Saturday (13/8). All four of the Bees’ goals came in the first 35 minutes at the Community Stadium, a period of time that seems to have left the players (and supporters) in shock.
For the second time in a row, Manchester United are dominated on all fronts by a mid-table team. This defeat also highlighted the shortcomings in the Red Devils squad and triggered discussions about returning to explore the transfer market.
Despite bringing in Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, the coach still wants additional players at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “It’s clear that we need players but I don’t want to think about that at the moment. The good players we had could be better.”
“I was expecting a better start, but I still have to believe because I’ve seen good things but the first two games were disappointing.”
The new Manchester United manager is clearly unhappy and after holding the players accountable for such poor performances, he also blamed himself in the BBC Match of the Day interview.
“It’s difficult for me, it’s surprising to start a game like this,” he said. “In 35 minutes we conceded four goals. The team has to take responsibility.”
“I feel really bad for the fans, they did everything to support us but we let them down. You have to take responsibility on the pitch as a team and as individuals, that’s what we didn’t do.”
“What I ask of them is to play with confidence and take responsibility for their performances. This is a challenge for us.”
“The manager is also responsible. He has the main responsibility and I accept that and make it my assignment.”
At a press conference, Ten Hag added: “Today we played naively, we have to be more direct.”
“We will learn, we have to learn, this is definitely not good enough, not the level and standard we want.”
