Manchester United Will Be in Trouble If They Fail to Enter the Champions League Zone

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester United is in danger of failing to enter the top four of the Premier League, aka the Champions League zone. Inconsistency in their game continues and if they fail to achieve it, the Red Devils will face difficulties next season.

Currently Harry Maguire et al are in fifth place in the standings with 47 points from 28 matches, one point adrift of Arsenal in fourth place and the Gunners have only played 25 times. So, the position of the top four is in the hands of Arsenal.

Given the poor performance of Man United when crushed by Manchester City 1-4 in the Manchester Derby on week 28 of the Premier League, Sunday (06/03) night WIB at the Etihad Stadium, the chances of entering the Champions League zone are thin.

The situation will be very difficult later if you fail to qualify for the Champions League for next season. If that happens, according to the Telegraph, Man United will only have 50 million pounds to spend in the summer transfer market.

This will make it difficult for whoever the new United manager will be if Ralf Rangnick’s contract is not made permanent, be it Erik ten Hag or Mauricio Pochettino. 50 million pounds is currently minimal funds, especially for a club as big as Man United.

For example, Borussia Dortmund will not sell Erling Haaland for less than 200 million euros, or other United targets such as Declan Rice, which West Ham United will sell for no less than 100 million pounds.

Last week, United also disclosed their financial condition and showed their debt now stands at £494 million, an 8.6 per cent increase from the previous announcement.

Selling players is an option to increase United’s spending budget in the summer of 2022 if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Several players are predicted to be sold, plus some players are also predicted to leave such as Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Edinson Cavani.

Man United legend Roy Keane thinks that several United players – allegedly like Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka – are not worthy of defending United, after an embarrassing performance against City.

“The worst thing you can say about United is they gave up,” said former United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports.

‘Giving up is absolutely inexcusable. There is no hiding place. We saw all of United’s shortcomings today. Anyone can lose a game of football, but losing like they have – a player who doesn’t back down when you play for Man United is unacceptable.”

“They threw the towel (surrendered) and it’s a shame. They are so far behind the other teams. Your own pride has to show up at some stage!”

“I’m starting to get frustrated watching it. Anyone can make mistakes, you forgive mistakes, but don’t back down, five or six players shouldn’t play for Manchester United anymore,” he explained.
