Manchester United’s identity have vanished
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Former Manchester United assistant manager, Rene Meulensteen believes that the Red Devils have lost their DNA after Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013. Meulensteen still feels the big impact of losing Ferguson.
Changes in managers from David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, until now in the hands of Ralf Rangnick show this fact. Ferguson’s legacy assessed Meulensteen has been lost.
“It suffices to say that the club has not won a league title since then (2013 when Ferguson retired),” Meulensteen said as quoted by the Mirror.
“The worst part is that Man United have completely lost their identity. Everything Ferguson has built over the years has been thrown into the sea (lost).”
“United have their own way of playing, they play in an interesting and creative way. But United’s recognizable football is missing.”
“If you want to be successful, it’s important to have continuity in your vision and a solid and stable organization. United no longer have both, while Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City with Pep Guardiola have that stability. You can see that in their success.”
Meulensteen was in Ferguson’s coaching squad for 12 years and 6 years in the first team, being in the squad and staff that had great success there.
“It was a fantastic time. It’s great to work with a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson and be on the training pitch with players like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs, young Cristiano Ronaldo, Patrice Evra, you name it,” added Meulensteen.
“It was the most successful period in the history of the United club. In 6 years we won 4 league titles. One time, we lost the league title by one point and another time by goal difference.”“Besides, during that period United have won the Champions League by beating Chelsea and twice lost in the Champions League final to Barcelona. It’s very special to be able to experience all of that,” he explained.
Now, Meulensteen is an assistant coach in the Australian national team after previously coaching at Brondby, Anzhi Makhachkala, Fulham, Maccabi Haifa and Kerala Blasters.
“Now my big goal is to go to the World Cup with Australia,” added Meulensteen.
“Then I will not only experience the highest achievements in club football, but also in international football.”
