Martin Odegaard refuses to return to Real Madrid

DBasia.news – President of Real Sociedad, Jokin Aperribay believes that Martin Odegaard will stay at his club rather than re-strengthen Real Madrid next season.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined Sociedad as a loan player for one season last year.

Odegaard’s performance with Sociedad has made the club based in the Basque City plan to extend the player’s loan period for next season.

The Norwegian national team midfielder has been linked back to Madrid, but Aperribay believes Odegaard is staying at Sociedad.

“I think Odegaard will stay at Sociedad. This is what I believe and hope to be realized,” he told Radio Euskad, Wednesday (6/10).

“If he stays, he must feel confident that it is the right decision, just like when he came here last year. The decision remains in Odegaard’s hands. However, I am sure he will remain with us,” said Aperribay.

“The decision is up to him and I think he will survive.”

So far Odegaard has scored seven goals and contributed eight assists in 28 matches this season before the competition was suspended due to the corona virus pandemic.

Odegaard played a role when Sociedad reached the final of the Copa del Rey, where they will face city rivals, Athletic Bilbao. However, Aperribay still does not know when the fight will be held.

“It’s not easy to arrange a final match in a short amount of time. I see it as being impossible. We don’t know the schedule.”

Sociedad legend, Roberto Lopez Ufarte believes Odegaard has the ability to claim a position in the Real Madrid first team, possibly playing in front of the Croatian veteran midfielder, Luka Modric.

“If you ask who is the most important player in Sociedad, my answer is Odegaard, (Alexander) Isak, and (Mikel) Oyarzabal. However, Odegaard is in first place. He has all the attributes that players need in midfield,” Ufarte told Noticias de Gipuzkoa.

“I’m not just talking about the impressive quality of technique. He really understands when to hold, pass, and win the ball, as well as pressing the opponent. He is even always the main target of the opponent’s central defender,” concluded Ufarte.
