Matthijs de Ligt Becomes One of the World’s Most Expensive Defenders

The 75 million euro transfer value puts Matthijs de Ligt in the rankings of the world’s most expensive defender. The first and second ranks were occupied by Virgil van Dijk (85 million euros) and Lucas Hernandez (80 million euros) respectively.

Meanwhile, the fourth most expensive defender in the world belongs to Aymeric Laporte. Exactly one position below it, entrenched Manchester City manager Benjamin Mendy.

Matthijs de Ligt began to steal the attention after appearing agile last season. The player brought Ajax Amsterdam Eredivisie champions and the KNVB Cup. In addition, Ajax also advanced to the Champions League semifinals.
