Maurizio Sarri Defends Lazio’s Controversial Goal

DBasia.news – Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri defended his side’s controversial goal against Inter Milan. Sarri said the protests only occurred in Italy.
Lazio host Inter in the 2021-2022 Serie A match, at the Stadio Olimpico, Saturday (16/10). Lazio turned winning 2-1 after Felipe Anderson scored in the 81st minute.
However, the goal was created when one Inter player, Federico Dimarco, fell and winced in pain. Instead of throwing the ball away as part of fair play, Lazio’s players chose to attack.
Inevitably, the Inter players also protested loudly. Felipe Anderson is considered not to care about fair play.
“There was no debate. Dimarco fell and Inter had a shot on goal. If anyone should throw the ball out of the game it is them. However, they didn’t,” Sarri said as reported by Football Italia.
“It was an obvious situation. They chose the game to continue,” added the coach.
“There are very clear rules. You only see complaints like this in Italy. In Europe and the Champions League that never happens,” said Sarri.
Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi insisted his team could not stop the match. Because it was Lautaro Martinez who got the ball in a position with his back to Dimarco.
“Lautaro couldn’t see what was going on behind. The referee could stop the game, Lautaro couldn’t. We finished the move, just unlucky to concede in an area where there were injured players,” said Inzaghi.
Lazio finally scored the third goal through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the 90+1 minute. With that result, Lazio rose to fifth in the standings.
