Mexican MX League Suspended Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Liga MX Mexico has stopped the competition until an undetermined time due to the outbreak of the corona virus in the country.
“It has been decided to suspend all MX League (main division), Ascenso BBVA MX (second division) and MX Women’s League matches based on general recommendations from the Federal Government Health Secretariat, where the MX League coordinates closely,” the league’s executive president stated in a statement in Mexico City, Mexico.
The postponement, as broadcasted by AFP which was monitored in Jakarta on Monday, took effect on Sunday night after the completion of the match between America and Cruz Azul which closed the 10th round of the season and was played in private.
The closure will remain in effect “until further notice” and the resumption of activity will be determined in coordination with the Mexican government health authorities.
Steps to maintain the health of players and fans continue to be improved for several days.
On Wednesday, Liga MX and Ascenso MX were scheduled to hold their normal weekend matches with spectators in the stands. Handshakes between players and officials are prohibited and no children would take part in the pre-match ceremony.
Two first division matches were played on Friday with spectators in the stands before a decision was made on Saturday to ban spectators but the match continued.
The last time a closed match was held in Mexico due to public health problems was during the swine flu outbreak in 2009.
