Michy Batshuayi felt foolish for joining Chelsea
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Michy Batshuayi stated that he felt foolish as he was tricked into joining Chelsea, due to Antonio Conte’s persuasion which he now calls a false promise.
The Belgium international striker joined the Blues from Marseille in the summer of 2016, when Conte was in charge of managerial control at Stamford Bridge.
Batshuayi believed he was recruited to partner Diego Costa, but instead he obtained little playing time and ultimately decided to leave the Premier League club after only 77 appearances and five loan spells.
Speaking to SPORT about why his Chelsea career hasn’t gone smoothly, the 28-year-old player said: “Conte is constantly at odds with himself. It started with my arrival.”
“He called me and explained his project. He wanted me to play up front, in a partnership with Diego Costa. Do I believe that? Of course because Conte before throughout his career always played two strikers.”
“But except at Chelsea when he was with me. I don’t understand. The truth is I’ve been fooled too many times.”
Batshuayi did score 25 goals for Chelsea, while also claiming a Premier League and FA Cup winner’s medal, but has never played a regular role in the intense competition for first place.
He left Chelsea for Fenerbahce in the transfer market yesterday, in the hope of reviving his career in Turkey and allowing him to earn another place in the Belgian national team for the 2022 World Cup.
