DBasia.news – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes referee Anthony Taylor’s decision to cancel the penalty for Burnley was right. Arteta felt, no offense occurred.
Arsenal are back on track to win after overthrowing the hosts, Burnley, 1-0, at Turf Moor, Saturday (18/9). Arsenal’s only goal was scored through Martin Odegaard’s accurate free kick in the 30th minute.
Indeed, Burnley is not without opportunities. The hosts fired 18 shots, while Arsenal only had 13.
One of Burnley’s chances was when referee Taylor pointed to the spot after Aaron Ramsdale was deemed to have fouled Matej Vydra in the restricted area. However, after the decision, the assistant referee in the VAR room made a call.
Finally, after using VAR and discussing, Ramsdale’s action to get the ball was considered clean. Burnley did not even receive a 12 pass kick.
Arteta appreciated the leadership of the referee on duty. According to him, what was decided was correct.
“His assistant immediately said it was not a penalty. So you have to cancel it,” Arteta told the BBC.
The 1-0 result made Arsenal familiar with the victory. It was the Gunners’ second three points in the Premier League this season. Previously, Arsenal won against Norwich City.
“I am thrilled and proud to see their game defensively. I am happy with this victory,” said Mikel Arteta.
