Mikel Arteta is wary, Arsenal might fail to sign Artur Melo in January

DBasia.news – Arsenal would most likely cancel in bringing Arthur Melo from Juventus in the winter transfer market this January.

Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, and Martin Odegaard immediately contributed to Arsenal’s game. They can reach the top four, aka the Champions League zone.

But the situation has become challenging since the turn of the year. Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup, despite not playing in Europe, and have been inconsistent. Arsenal are winless so far in 2022.

In five games in all competitions Arsenal have played they have lost three times and drawn twice, scoring just one goal and conceding five goals. Players who performed brilliantly were Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, while Gabriel Martinelli played poorly.

Meanwhile, senior players such as Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failed to set an example for Arsenal’s youth team. Ironically, Arsenal’s difficulties continued in the winter transfer market which opened throughout January.

“That’s what we planned but the market (transfer) is challenging and complicated. We have to make the right decisions with players who we believe can really help us to the next level,” said Mikel Arteta some time ago.

Arsenal’s main target in January is a striker and that target is Dusan Vlahovic, Fiorentina striker. But instead of being attracted to Arsenal, Vlahovic rejected Arsenal and is now closer to joining Juventus.

In the end Arsenal switched targets to Alexander Isak (Real Sociedad) and Luka Jovic (Real Madrid). Again, in this situation Arsenal made it difficult for themselves due to the expiration of Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts.

Not to mention Aubameyang’s indisciplinary problems and the loan of Folarin Balogun to Middlesbrough. Naturally, in the end Arsenal are looking for a new striker.

That difficulty also occurred to other shots of Bruno Guimaraes (Olympique Lyonnais) and Arthur Melo (Juventus). Arsenal are targeting Bruno, but the player as reported by Sky Sports is moving closer to Newcastle United.

Then for Arthur, negotiations did take place with Juventus but Arsenal had difficulty meeting Juve’s demands in the form of an 18-month loan period and the player’s salary being paid in full.

“Arthur-Arsenal situation, basically the same after one week. Nothing has changed. Juventus want an 18-month loan and full salary paid, Arsenal offered a six-month loan,” said Fabrizio Romano.

Anything can still happen ahead of the transfer window deadline. But Arsenal’s current situation with a protracted transfer is not ideal.
