Mikel Arteta praises Matt Turner’s performance

DBasia.news – Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, praised Matt Turner after the United States national team goalkeeper appeared as a starter in the Europa League.

Bukayo Saka scored the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Bodo/Glimt 1-0 at Aspmyra Stadium, Friday (14/10) WIB, to maintain their perfect start in the Europa League group stage.

Turner was one of the bright spots in Arsenal’s win over Bodo/Glimt, despite only making one official save that day. The goalkeeper quickly went off his line, helping to thwart several dangerous runs before they came close to the box.

“He’s improving, he’s getting better, obviously we asked him different things than what other managers asked him to do,” Arteta told reporters after the game.

“He was much better in the first half than in the second, I think. We could have had more control, but I think he is phenomenal in goal in many situations, especially when defending the area behind the center and in one-on-one situations, he’s great.”

This match was one of Turner’s big performances as he looked to seal a starting spot for USMNT at the World Cup. He will have a few more games to play before heading to Qatar, with him having the chance to feature in a cup tournament.

Arsenal will visit Leeds United this weekend in the Premier League, but it is unlikely that Turner will face US team-mates, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams. He will most likely feature again on October 20 when Arsenal host PSV in the Europa League.
