Mohamed Salah is not included in Egypt’s Olympic squad list

DBasia.news – Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah would not play for the Egyptian national team at the Tokyo Olympics. Salah’s name was not included in Egypt’s Olympic squad list issued by Egypt’s Football Federation (EFA).

Previously, Liverpool objected to giving Salah permission to join the Egyptian team in the Tokyo Olympics. The Galatasaray club did the same thing by banning Mostafa Mohamed from participating in the tournament which will be held on July 21- August 7 in Tokyo, Japan.

Egypt coach Shawky Gharib has named 22 players in his squad, including Ahmed Hegazy of Ittihad, Mahmoud al-Wensh of Zamalek and Al-Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy.

The Egyptian national team qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after they won AFCON U-23 in 2019. At the Olympics, Egypt was in Group C along with Argentina, Spain and Australia.

Initially the Egypt’s coach wanted to bring Salah as one of the senior players allowed into his team. However, Gharib’s efforts were met with opposition from Liverpool.

Until mid-June, Gharib stated that he would still wait for a response from Liverpool regarding the green light to head to Tokyo. However, currently Gharib did not include Mo Salah’s name in his squad. Most likely it was because Liverpool did not give the green light.
