Mourinho is relieved to be able to end the Bodo/Glimt curse

DBasia.news – AS Roma’s success in advancing to the 2021-2022 Conference League semifinals has a double meaning for Jose Mourinho. In addition to getting closer to adding to his trophy collection, he is also relieved to be able to end the Bodo/Glimt curse.

In the second leg of the quarter-finals which took place at the Stadio Olimpico, Friday (15/4), Roma defeated Bodo/Glimt with a landslide score of 4-0. The result made Il Giallorossi ahead by 5-2 on aggregate.

Tammy Abraham opened the scoring for Roma through a flick in the fifth minute. Nicolo Zaniolo then scored the next three goals to score a hat-trick.

Bodo/Glimt is a nightmare for Roma. Prior to the match at the Olimpico, the Italian capital team failed to defeat the Norwegian representatives in three meetings.

The two teams met twice in the group stage. As a result, Roma were beaten 6-1 away and only drew 2-2 at the Olimpico.

The draw for the quarter-finals brought the two teams together again. But Rome again lost with a score of 1-2 in the first leg.

The defeat infuriated Mourinho. He considered his team performed better and did not deserve to lose.

Mourinho even bragged that he would bring Roma to overturn in the second leg. It has now become a reality.

“Frankly it’s unacceptable that we only managed to beat them at the fourth attempt. But we played much better than people say,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia.

“Being in the semifinals is the most important thing. But with the way we played from the first minute, we all felt the game was ours even at 2-0.

“Even after the first leg when we lost 2-1, I always felt we were superior. We are a stronger team,” he added.

Roma closed the first half with a 3-0 advantage. But Mourinho warned his players not to be too eager to avenge the 1-6 defeat in the group phase.

“I told my team at half-time that it’s not about humiliating the opponent, winning 6-1 like they did in Norway. It’s just about reaching the semi-finals,” Mourinho said.

Mourinho thought wisely for a reason. He did not want the players’ energy to be drained due to a busy schedule awaiting until the end of the season.
