Netflix Is More Interesting than Atlético Madrid Games

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The total defensive game that Atletico Madrid applied in the first leg of the 2021-2022 Champions League quarter-finals again drew criticism. This time the performance of Los Rojiblancos is compared to the shows on the Netflix channel.

Atlético looked like they appeared with a 5-5-0 scheme when they visited Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the middle of last week. Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann who were installed as attackers were more busy helping the defense than being in the opponent’s penalty box.

That strategy in fact still made Atletico defeated by a score of 0-1. Kevin De Bruyne’s goal in the 70th minute shattered Diego Simeone’s layered defense.

Interestingly, Atletico did not try to come out to attack after being left behind. The Spanish representative was still unable to register a single shot until the referee blew the long whistle signaling the end of the match.

What Atletico showed drew a lot of criticism. Marco van Basten became the latest figure to do so.

“What Atletico Madrid is doing is legal and permissible. But I am surprised that there is a team with 10 men behind the ball for the full 90 minutes who are just trying to avoid conceding a goal,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport.

“Football organizations like FIFA have to start thinking about how to make the game more fun. With that style of football, there is no enjoyment.”

Van Basten’s satire did not stop there. He firmly considered the game that Atletico showed was not worth watching.

“It would make more sense for someone to change TV channels and go watch Netflix at that time (Man City vs Atletico,” he added.

Atletico will take turns hosting Manchester City in the second leg, Thursday (14/4) early morning WIB. It is interesting to see the tactics Simeone will use to make up for his team’s goal deficit.
