New Technologies at the 2022 World Cup

DBasia.news – 2022 will be a special year for football lovers. Because at the end of 2022, the 2022 World Cup will soon be held.

Different from previous editions of the World Cup when the World Cup was held after the leagues in Europe ended, this year is different because it is held in Qatar, Asia, from November 21 to December 18 2022.

Qatar became the first Asian host after South Korea and Japan had previously hosted the 2002 World Cup. At the same event FIFA, as the World Football Federation, announced the use of new technology.

As reported by FIFA’s official website, FIFA will make the 2022 World Cup a moment to use new offside technology with the term semi-automatic offside.

The technology is expected to become a tool to assist video referees and also on the pitch to help them make decisions quickly, more accurately, in giving decisions related to offside.

The semi-automatic offside technology uses 12 cameras on the roof of the stadium to follow the direction of the ball, also with 29 data points for each individual, 50 times per second, calculating the position well on the playing field.

The 29 data collected includes the upper body and details in making refereeing decisions. The official 2022 World Cup ball, Al Rihla, will also have sensors to spot very slim offside decisions.

The use of semi-automatic offside technology was justified by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino. He considered this technology a development after the 2018 World Cup using VAR.

“At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, FIFA took the bold step of using VAR technology on the world’s biggest stage, and it has proven to be an undeniable success,” Infantino said.

“The semi-automated offside technology is an evolution of the VAR system that has been implemented around the world.”

“This technology is the culmination of three years of dedicated research and testing to bring the best to the teams, players and fans heading to Qatar later this year, and FIFA is proud of this work, as we look forward to seeing the world benefit from the semi-automated offside technology. at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

“FIFA is committed to leveraging technology to improve the game of football at all levels, and the use of semi-automatic offside technology at the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the clearest evidence of this,” said Infantino.
