DBasia.news – Neymar seemed devastated by the death of Diego Maradona as one of the best footballers in the world. He revealed his unforgettable memories with the Napoli legend.
Maradona’s death last week has become a deep sorrow for world football. Since then, testimonies related to the legend have been shared by football figures who had known him.
It turned out that Neymar also has his own story of Maradona. The moment Neymar refered to happened several years ago when he was a child.
“I had very little contact with Maradona, but I will never forget the meeting when I was 12 or 13 years old. At that time I had just started at Santos and went to watch an entertainment match between the former Brazilian and Argentine,” Neymar told Eleven Sports.
“Because the Brazilian team bus was full, I couldn’t go with them, so I was put on the Argentine bus. There were two people in the spotlight there, because they were sitting in the first seats, (Alejandro) Mancuso and Maradona.”
“So they (Maradona and Mancuso) put me beside him and treated me very well. When we arrived at the stadium, they took me to Argentine’s locker room and onto the pitch,” he added.
This moment has actually made an impression on Neymar’s memory. Evidently he still remembers it today.
Interestingly, Neymar also took a photo with Maradona. This moment was what made him deeply touched.
“I even took a picture with Maradona, when I was a child. He called me to take the photo and I will never forget his gesture,” continued Neymar.
“On the pitch he is an icon for everyone, of course. For me too, but I always respect him as an athlete and as a footballer. I will never forget that.”
As a Brazilian player, it’s strange for Neymar to praise an Argentine. But Maradona seems to be an exception.
