DBasia.news –  Atalanta is rumored to be borrowing the San Siro to play in the Champions League next season. But, Paolo Scaroni, owner of AC Milan, was reluctant to allow it to keep the fans’ feeling.

Atalanta managed to represent Italy in the 2019-2020 Champions League. Last season, Duvan Zapata and his friends ranked third in the Serie A final standings.

However, Atalanta certainly cannot use their headquarters, the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium, in Bergamo, because it is being renovated. The stadium was declared not according to standards to hold European competition.

At first, Atalanta had chosen Sassuolo’s stadium, Mapei Stadium, as the headquarters in the Champions League. However, a discourse emerged to borrow the San Siro.

The choice of San Siro by Atalanta is not without cause. Orobici considered San Siro very strategic because it was close to Bergamo. In addition, San Siro is only used by Inter Milan for European competition.

Atalanta’s request was approved by the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala. However, he warned Sassuolo to seek approval from Inter and Milan.

“I support this step. However, the two Milan clubs also have to decide. It seems, they will also give permission,” Sala said as quoted by the Italian Football.

So far, Inter have reportedly given Atalanta the go-ahead to compete at the San Siro. However, Milan have an unmatched answer.

“I have not heard from the mayor. We will think of everything,” Scaroni said.

“We will consider the fans who have suffered because we cannot appear in the Europa League. The stadium does not only belong to the club but also the fans.”

Previously, supporters   AC Milan, Curva Sud, balked at the idea of taking San Siro to Atalanta. They assess it will be a severe blow when Milan can not compete in the Europa League for the violation of Financial Fair Play.
