DBasia.news – Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has spoken about his fate with the Blues. In his latest statement, the French national team striker admitted that he almost joined a rival club, Tottenham Hotspur in the January 2020 transfer market.
“During the last three days of the transfer window last January, I was in the coach’s office looking for a solution. At that time I hoped Chelsea would find my replacement striker,” said Giroud as quoted by the Daily Mail, Wednesday (16/9).
The 33-year-old striker has indeed been widely linked with a move from Stamford Bridge Stadium in the transfer window last winter. This is after Giroud was frozen from the Blues main squad for two months.
Giroud joined Chelsea from city rivals Arsenal in 2018. He admitted that he wanted to leave Roman Abramovich’s club so badly that he almost joined Tottenham Hotspur.
“I almost joined Lazio, Inter Milan. I was very determined to go and almost joined Tottenham,” continued Giroud.
Fate says differently, Giroud remains at Chelsea. He began to gain confidence as a major player on the Blues front line, under coach Frank Lampard.
A month after almost leaving from Chelsea, the 2018 World Cup winners with France scored the opener in their 2-1 win over Tottenham.
In fact, following the resumption of the Premiere League competition after being delayed due to the corona virus, Giroud is in his best performance. His goal helped Chelsea finish fourth in the Premiere League standings.
