Olivier Giroud Scored Four Goals, Lampard Could Not Guarantee Regular Play

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Olivier Giroud bought Chelsea’s four goals in the win over Sevilla in the Champions League a few days ago. His performance was fantastic, but Frak Lampard still did not guarantee a regular spot for the French striker.

The 2020/21 season has been the most difficult for Giroud. He only served as the second spare tire for Chelsea’s attacking position, still losing to Tammy Abraham, and the core position was filled by Timo Werner.

Giroud was rumored to be sold by the Blues in January 2021. He is 34 years old and is considered no longer needed by the team.

However, it turns out that Giroud is still not finished, and he proved it with a quattrick against Sevilla yesterday. How did Lampard respond?

The issue of the opportunity to play Giroud is actually an old problem at Chelsea. Lampard has been asked several times to answer questions about the French striker’s playing minutes.

Now Lampard is back in talks after Giroud’s four-goal show and he still can’t guarantee the chance to play more.

“As for Giroud, this is not a question of guaranteeing playing minutes to any player. Because in a competitive squad like ours, it is very difficult to do,” said Lampard on Chelsea’s official website.

“What you can do is so that the players who are not in the first team can train well, then when given the opportunity to give an impressive performance like Oli [Giroud] yesterday.”

Lampard also admitted that Giroud’s performance would make him more dizzy about choosing a starter. However, he still mentioned the name Tammy Abraham, who he thought had played very well and about the ideal opportunity for each player.

“I am happy with him, his performance is good and he is training well. In attack, I have a tough competition to win a place to play,” continued Lampard.

“Tammy Abraham has been doing very well for us this season, scoring lots of goals and making assists.”

“I have never seen a negative reaction from Oli and I have high respect for him.”

In short, Lampard cannot guarantee a starting place for Giroud, but if the 34-year-old striker’s form continues to climb, of course there will be more chances to play.

“If he plays like he did against Sevilla, obviously he will get more chances to play,” continued Lampard.

“Because the performance at that time was really top class,” he said.
