DBasia.news – Manchester United were unable to do much when they travelled to Liverpool’s headquarters in the postponed Premier League 2021-2022 match. Even so, one Red Devils player was still able to steal the show.
In the match which took place at Anfield, Wednesday (20/4), Manchester United was defeated by a score of 0-4. Two goals nested in David De Gea’s goal in each half.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring for the hosts when the game was five minutes in. Mohamed Salah then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute.
After halftime, Manchester United performed better. But Liverpool were still able to score two more goals through the contributions of Sadio Mane and Salah.
Shortly after Salah scored Liverpool’s fourth goal in the 85th minute, Manchester United made a change. Ralf Rangnick brought in Hannibal Mejbri and pulled out Anthony Elanga.
This change was considered by many as a sign of the end of Manchester United’s resistance. Rangnick seemed to have choosen to give young players the opportunity to show off.
However, Mejbri wants to take full advantage of this opportunity. He appeared adamant to snatch the ball from the control of the Liverpool players.
This persistence even resulted in a yellow card just two minutes after Mejbri entered the field. He fouled Jordan Henderson.
Not long ago, Mejbri even almost received a second yellow card for violating Naby Keita. Luckily the referee still gave him a warning.
Even so, what Mejbri did actually reaped a lot of praise. The 19-year-old player seemed to show his seniors the right way to fight with Manchester United.
A Gary Neville was even amazed by what Mejbri showed. He seems to be very aware of the rivalry between the two teams.
“It takes a little kid to show them (Man United players) how to run and tackle. I’m honestly proud of him,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He was running all over the place and admittedly trying to kick people. Maybe he doesn’t like seeing Liverpool players play the ball and tries to take it.”
The appearance shown by Mejbri did raise a hope in Manchester United. It is possible that Rangnick will give him many opportunities to appear in the rest of the season.
