Ousmane Dembele made Xavi take back what he said
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has decided to re-involve Ousmane Dembele in his squad. He seemed to be forced to take back what he said.
Xavi had time to freeze Dembele’s status. It can’t be separated from the player’s reluctance to extend his contract which expires at the end of the season.
After being frozen, Barcelona intend to sell Dembele in the winter transfer market. However, no club has been serious about signing the French national until the transfer window closes.
This condition has made the relationship between Dembele and Barcelona and Xavi strange. There are rumors that the club led by Joan Laporta intends to terminate his contract or side line him until the end of the season.
A special meeting between Xavi and the club’s board of directors was even held to discuss this issue. In the end, they agreed to reuse Dembele.
“We can’t shoot ourselves in the foot, Dembele can help us. He has become a good professional and this is the club’s decision,” Xavi said at a press conference ahead of the match against Atletico Madrid.
“I understand everyone’s position, but we have to close the ranks and think about what is best for the club. We think he can help us.”
Freezing or terminating Dembele’s contract is not a wise decision. Barcelona actually remains a disadvantaged party from both options.
Despite refusing to extend the contract, Dembele still has the right and obligation to defend Barcelona. The professionalism of the former Borussia Dortmund player is at stake.
Dembele will certainly appear wholeheartedly when given the opportunity. He needs to sell himself to attract other clubs.
While Barcelona and Xavi will also benefit from the presence of Dembele. The Catalan club’s attack options have become more numerous.
“I will use Dembele when I think it’s convenient. If Dembele plays, I hope he has the support of the fans,” he added.
“We believe that the best thing is to have Dembele because he has a contract and he can play.”
Xavi has taken back what he said by praising Dembele’s professionalism. Even though he had sentenced the 24-year-old player’s career to be over at Camp Nou.
“Dembele is a great professional and his commitment is perfect. In a few minutes we need him and he will help us, I have no doubt about that.”
