Overcome Newcastle United, Pep Guardiola Asks Manchester City to Stay Focused
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Pep Guardiola expressed his satisfaction after Manchester City defated Newcastle United, but he realizes that the season will not be completely smooth.
Goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres secured the Blues victory over the Magpies so that the Etihad could celebrate on Boxing Day.
These results has made City’s position move up to fifth in the standings, four points behind the Champions League zone and three points from Everton who control second.
City are now in a more familiar position in the standings but Guardiola refuses to be conceited and choose to focus on his team’s busy schedule.
“It’s a tricky match with the weather and an opponent who is known to be challenging to defeat,” he said after the match.
“But we played the right tempo. Today the positioning of the players was perfect, it’s a shame we couldn’t score more goals but whatever it was we got the results we wanted.”
“We can’t think much, the game comes every three days. The players remain committed and focused.”
“We are still far from the top of the standings, last week we were in 10th place, the season was up and down. Every team sufferes strange results. In this season we have to be calm in good or bad situations.”
At the same time Guardiola has criticized the fixtures for the Christmas period, with City having to play again on December 29 against Everton.
“Tomorrow, the players must recover and prepare in just one day,” he continued.
“The pandemic has put us in an extreme situation, but that’s how England and the FA are responding, we can only accept it.”
