Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the players who is considered a GOAT throughout the history of football. Meanwhile, the other names are Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Pele.

Not surprisingly, several debates arose regarding who deserved the title of best player. Two of the names that are often putted are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

To determine it, Oxford mathematics professor, Dr. Tom Crawford, has created the GOAT index, along with LiveScore, to prove who is truly the greatest of all time.

As a result, Ronaldo occupy the top position. Meanwhile, the top five are inhabited by Messi, Pele, Ferenc Puskas, and Ronaldo Nazario.

There are seven criteria that make Ronaldo at the top. Goals and club titles are the first two. Then, goals and international titles next in line. After that, the Ballon d’Or, individual awards, historical achievements and finally the Z factor.

The former Real Madrid striker scored 815 goals in 1,122 career matches in all competitions, while Messi scored 769 goals in 974 matches.

When it comes to trophies, Messi is superior. Although, Ronaldo has more titles in the Champions League and the international stage.

Regarding the national team, Ronaldo is better than Messi when it comes to goals. Moreover, currently Ronaldo is the record holder for the most number of goals at the national team level.
