Pau Lopez, The Form of a Modern Goalkeeper
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Pau Lopez, AS Roma’s new goalkeeper, has begun to show off his skill in using both legs in Serie A 2019-20.
Modern goalkeepers are not only required to perform a series of brilliant rescue actions, but are also asked to be actively involved in the construction of team play. Pau Lopez has been able to answer these demands so far.
Lopez often appeared as a team upstream game throught his short passings. Paulo Fonseca did specifically ask Roma personnel to be more patient in designing attacks.
In two Serie A matches this season, Lopez has released 54 passes, a relatively high amount for a goalkeeper. The passings from Lopez’s foot are even slightly more than Nicolo Zaniolo (53 operands).
Another thing that deserves more attention is Lopez’s ability to take off a long pass. In transitional or counterattack situations, long, accurate passes are crucial to providing a shock effect for opponents.
Lopez became the Roma player who recorded the most accurate long passes. The Spanish goalkeeper’s 13 long passes successfully met the target.
The Giallorossi personnel who are closest to Lopez’s record are Alessandro Florenzi and Bryan Cristante, each of which packed eight long passes accurately.
