DBasia.news – The Spanish team’s continued journey to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic men’s football final means two things: the chance to win a gold medal and more playing time for Barcelona’s Pedri.
Among those who played in the Olympics, 18-year-old Pedri has been in the spotlight because he has literally not stopped playing since the 2020-2021 season, then continued to the 2020 European Cup and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Currently, Pedri’s amount of playing time has reached 1,068 minutes from the accumulation of the European Cup and Olympics. In the European Cup he only missed once. If the total from last season’s appearance, then assuming playing in the Olympic final, then Pedri will play 5,000 minutes more games.
In comparison Lionel Messi played 630 minutes for Argentina en route to the 2021 Copa America champions, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo’s 360 minutes in Euro 2020 with Portugal.
Pedri has played more minutes than both of them combined (990 minutes), plus there is still one game left against Brazil in the Olympic final, Saturday (07/08) at 18.30 WIB.
Is Pedri exhausted?
Pedri understands the public’s concern regarding his condition, which is considered to be exhausted, to the potential for injury. However, Pedri believes he has had enough rest even though he has played a lot.
“I feel fine. It’s normal for people to say I must be tired, but I try to rest well after playing every game. You have to rest as much as possible to give the best for the team,” Pedri said at Marca.
Pedri instead focused against Brazil for the final match later. According to him, it will be challenging ainst the reigning champions with a big tradition in football.
“I wanted to play against Brazil in the final from the start. I always like to play against the best,” added Pedri.
“It will be a tough game, they play good football, they are very technical and they like to have fun with the ball.”
