DBasia.news – European titles, be Europa League or Champions League, are believed by Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, to be no more important than domestic titles. Discussing the topic, Guardiola quipped Liverpool Premier League title fasting.
Since 1990 or 1992 when the Premier League was introduced, Liverpool never won it. Uniquely, when trying to reach it, Liverpool actually won their sixth Champions League title in the 2018/19 season.
Guardiola also boasts a Premier League title which his team has won twice in a row. According to the Spanish manager, winning the league in England is very difficult.
“Winning the league title in England is very difficult. The test for the first time in the last 11 years the team can win two consecutive times and Barca often do it,” said Guardiola, as reported by the Mirror.
“On the contrary, Liverpool have never won the league for 30 years and we have all seen how strong Liverpool were last season,” he continued.
Guardiola, who has won eight league titles, makes it clear that the domestic title is always a priority for him in addition to pursuing the Champions League title.
“Champions and wins are very addictive and give you energy. This gives you a league, there is no other competition,” added Guardiola.
“That’s why when they told me ‘But, he didn’t win the Champions League’, I answered that I want to make it clear that I want to win the Champions League, but the league is what makes players follow you because every three days you win.”
“When you lose, players stop trusting you. The league puts you in the right position. That’s why I always target it, from when I train team B (Barcelona) I always prioritize it.”
“I can’t place everything randomly for competitions that can’t be controlled like the Champions League or tournaments, as in England,” the 48-year-old coach explained.
