Pep Guardiola is pessimistic that Manchester City can sign Harry Kane and Erling Haaland

DBasia.news – Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are Manchester City’s main targets in the transfer market this summer. But Pep Guardiola as the manager feels pessimistic about signing one of them.

Manchester City does need a new world-class striker. It can’t be separated from the departure of Sergio Aguero, whose contract has expired.

Kane and Haaland were quickly linked with the Citizens. Both do have a goal instinct above average.

But Manchester City’s ambition to sign either Kane or Haaland will not be easy to realize. Both have high prices that are challenging for other clubs to redeem.

Kane and Haaland are believed to be worth over 100 million euros at the moment. Only a few clubs can afford to spend that much money during a pandemic.

Manchester City is one of the few clubs on the list. But Guardiola still doubts the financial strength of his club.

“With these prices, we are not going to purchase a striker. We can’t afford to buy him (Kane or Haaland),” Guardiola told TV3.

“All clubs are struggling financially, we are no exception. I don’t know what will happen.”

Manchester City seems to be more careful in signing players this summer. The success of escaping UEFA’s punishment for the Financial Fair Play violation case has traumatized city rivals, Manchester United.

Signing Kane or Haaland will indeed put Manchester City on UEFA’s radar again. This seems to be the main consideration for Guardiola.

“Maybe we will spend but maybe we will not purchase strikers for next season. Today there is more chance we will not purchase strikers for next season,” he added.

Guardiola’s Solution

Failure to bring in Kane or Haaland did not frustrate Guardiola. He admitted that he was ready to maximize the current players.

With the departure of Aguero, the status of Manchester City’s main striker now belongs to Gabriel Jesus. Although inconsistent, the Brazilian player was still reliable throughout last season.

“We have Gabriel (Jesus) and Ferran (Torres) who are extraordinary in this position. We have young players in the academy and we played many times with false nines,” he concluded.
