DBasia.news – Portugal defender, Pepe is aiming for the 2022 World Cup title in Qatar in 2022 when he will turn 39.
The former Real Madrid center-back, who now plays for FC Porto, wants to appear in the upcoming World Cup, which is only three months before he turns 40. Pepe has 111 caps with the Portugal national team since making his debut in 2007.
Pepe has experienced three World Cup competitions and three European Championships, including Portugal’s success in winning the Euro 2016 trophy in France.
Pepe was crowned man of the match thanks to his performance in the 1-0 win over the hosts in the final, with him taking 12 clearances and three blocks to hold France off before a win after a grueling 120 minutes.
The competition for positions in the defense of Fernando Santos’ squad is now strong. Pepe started in the 0-0 draw against Spain on Tuesday (6/10) with debutant, Ruben Semedo and was replaced early in the second half by new Manchester City signing, Ruben Dias.
Even so, Pepe is optimistic that he will be able to appear at the World Cup in the next two years.
“You never know,” Pepe said ahead of the UEFA Nations League match against France.
“I am focused on the next game, it’s the most important thing.”
