Petr Cech Reportedly Has Followed Goalkeeping Training with Chelsea

DBasia.news – Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has signaled that Petr Cech has a chance to return to being the goalkeeper of the Blues. Cech is even reported to have followed Chelsea goalkeeping training.

38 year old Petr Cech hanging up his gloves at the end of the 2018-2019 season. While playing in England, Cech defended Chelsea and Arsenal. The goalkeeper won four Premier League titles and one Champions League title.

Interestingly, Petr Cech’s name is included in Chelsea’s 25-man squad list for this season. This has sparked speculation that Cech will compete alongside Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero as Chelsea’s main goalkeeper.

Chelsea clarified if the reason Cech was called up was for exceptional circumstances as a non-contract player. Frank Lampard said, Cech had started to return to training while providing knowledge for other goalkeepers. However, Cech also continues to hold his duties at Chelsea’s management.

“Petr Cech trained with the goalkeepers for some time back. He has trained a few days with them for the experience of other goalkeepers. He gave that quality to them,” said Lampard as reported by Goal after the 0-0 draw against Sevilla.

Chelsea do face problems in the goalkeeping position. When Edouard Mendy was injured, Lampard lacked replacement options because Kepa’s performance was still disappointing.

“We have space in the squad and we know this year it looks like nothing else because of the coronavirus, isolation has become very easy. Petr Cech is still doing his daily work and he is there if we need him.”

“He is still very fit and relatively young. Cech retired when he could continue. He took the role at Chelsea very well and was very helpful. We are working closely. He trains quite regularly and is very fit,” he added.

Furthermore, Frank Lampard opened up opportunities to lower Petr Cech in the Chelsea match.

“Are we going to see it often this season? I’m not sure. I mentioned before, it depends on how the season goes with the coronavirus pandemic and isolation.”

“When in his best form, he can help other goalkeepers. We saw one of the best in the modern era,” he continued.

“However, with the way he is and if we are in times of crisis, there is nothing better than having Petr Cech. I did not expect him. Nothing is the nicest of what we have.”

This season, Chelsea has only kept three clean sheets in various competitions. One of them was against the Championship team, Barnsley.
