Pique’s good intentions were rejected by Barcelona

Even though they are experiencing financial problems, Barcelona are still actively bringing in new players. A series of new names recruited are Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.

Barcelona would most likely not be able to register new players. The reason is, there are Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Salary Cap rules that are applied.

Cutting player salaries is one of Barcelona’s solutions to escape the problem. Pique is one of the pillars whose wages have been cut for this season.

According to Mundo Deportivo’s report, Pique did not refuse to have his salary cut. In fact, he offered Barcelona no need to pay him a penny until his contract expired.

Pique’s tenure at Barcelona ends on June 30, 2024. This means that the 35-year-old footballer will play for free for two years.

However, Barcelona officials rejected Pique’s offer. This is because the Blaugrana refuse to circumvent the rules unprofessionally.

Barcelona officials prefer to cut Pique’s salary for the next two years. Both parties have reportedly agreed to this.

Last season, he was the first Barcelona player to be willing to take a pay cut. Thanks to this gesture, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia were registered.
