Premier League continues to make a record of Covid-19 positive cases in a week

DBasia.news – The Premier League announced there have been 103 cases of Covid-19 among players and club staff over the past week. This amount is a record in their scope since the pandemic broke out last year.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League carried out 15,186 Covid-19 tests during the December 20-26 period. The number of these tests has increased by about 5 times compared to the start of this season.
There are 2 methods carried out, namely lateral flow testing which is carried out every day and PCR testing which is carried out twice a week. As a result, 103 people tested positive.
This amount is more than the previous week, which was 90 cases during December 13-19. It is also the highest since periodic testing came into effect in May 2020, when the Premier League resumed after a two-month suspension.
The increasing number of cases per week in the Premier League is also in line with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the UK. The latest UK government data on December 27, 2021 reported that there were more than 760 thousand positive cases over the past week.
The impact on football was no joke. Throughout December, 15 matches have been postponed, and it is believed that there could be more, given the tight schedule of matches until early next year.
This condition has invited criticism from clubs. Suggestions to impose a winter break or increase the number of substitutions in one match have been called for, but nothing has been done and the Premier League is still taking place with all the precautions taken.
