Protested for Winning the Appeal, Pep Guardiola fights back Critics

DBasia.news – The successful appeal by Manchester City over UEFA’s sanction related to the ban on appearing in European competition for two seasons has received criticism from various parties. This has made Citizens manager, Pep Guardiola upset and counterattacked.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) did grant Manchester City’s appeal against the alleged violation of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules alleged by UEFA. The Citizens are believed to have not manipulated the financial statements as alleged by the European football confederation.

Even so, many parties consider the decision to cancel Manchester City’s sentence has been controversial. This also sets a bad precedent related to the enforcement of FFP rules.

A few who have criticized this decision are Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp. Both are Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool managers who are Manchester City’s direct competitors in the Premier League.

Klopp worries that the Manchester City case could remove the FFP regulations. While Mourinho said that the CAS’ decision was very embarrassing.

“Jose (Mourinho) and all managers must know that our reputation is damaged (because of this case) and we apologize. We do not expect Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea or Wolves to defend us,” Guardiola said at a press conference session during the match against Bournemouth.

“If we did something wrong, we will really accept the decision. We have the right to defend ourselves when we believe that what we do is right. “

“The club believes that what they did was right and three judges said we did it right. The assumption of people who said we cheated and lied is not proven, “he continued.

Guardiola deserves to be infuriated by these criticisms. Manchester City has been cornered because of this case even though the court has stated otherwise.

The Spanish manager also believes that Manchester City deserves to appear in the Champions League next season. It was not separated from their success in locking second place in the 2019-2020 Premier League.

“We tried to be there (Champions League) and we have done it on the field. “They (critics) must go to the field too and try to beat us like we do it as sportsmen,” he concluded.
