Qatar reacts after being accused of human rights violation at the 2022 World Cup

DBasia.news – The 2022 World Cup is about to start in less than a month. However, the polemic regarding the holding of the tournament to be held in Qatar has not come to an end.
As is known, Qatar was accused of human rights violations in preparing for the 2022 World Cup. This was due to the deaths of around 6,500 construction workers, mostly from abroad, in the process of building the stadium.
The number of victims is the highest in a process of preparing to hold a major event. As an illustration, the record for the largest casualties was previously held by the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia with a total of 60 people.
No wonder many are demanding the Qatari government and the 2022 World Cup committee to take responsibility. The Australian national team became the latest party to make these demands.
Not wanting to be embarrassed, Qatar defended themselves. The Middle Eastern country said they are doing their best to protect workers.
“We have made every effort to ensure that this World Cup has a transformative impact on improving lives, especially for those involved in the construction of competitive and non-competitive venues for which we are responsible,” the 2022 World Cup organizing committee said in a statement.
“Protecting the health, safety, security and dignity of every worker who contributes to this World Cup is our priority. “This is achieved through our commitment to holding contractors accountable through worker welfare standards.”
Qatar was appointed to host the 2022 World Cup more than a decade ago. The country is said to have spent 470 billion US dollars to build new stadiums and other supporting buildings.
Climate issues are the biggest challenge for Qatar to make the World Cup a success. FIFA has finally pushed back the tournament schedule to the end of the year.
“No country is perfect, and every country, either hosts a major event or does not have its own challenges,” the statement concluded.
