Ralf Rangnick Has a Long Future at Manchester United
By db-admin
DBasia.news – As many media outlets and European football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believe, Manchester United have found an agreement with Ralf Rangnick for him to become interim manager.
After sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United were temporarily managed by Michael Carrick, who was Solskjaer’s previous assistant coach, while the club looked for a replacement manager for Solskjaer.
The manager wanted is on an interim basis until the end of the 2021-2022 season. The search bore fruit, from Rudi Garcia, Ernesto Valverde, Lucien Favre, in the end United chose Ralf Rangnick.
“Manchester United confirmed to Ralf Rangnick his role as ‘consultant’ from June 2022 to 2024 – but Ralf would be interested in a full-time manager role if offered. Rangnick’s team is preparing a work permit,” said Romano.
Rangnick’s CV in coaching is not the best in terms of trophies, but he has the respect of many of his colleagues from Germany who are now successful in England such as Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea).
Rangnick is considered a teacher of gegenpressing which he used as a foundation at Hoffenheim, Schalke, and RB Leipzig. Another plus of him is the ability to develop young talent and find players.
That’s why Rangnick is a unique type of coach with the ability to be Director of Sport. John Murtough already has that role at Man United, no doubt Rangnick will become United’s ‘consultant’ after his contract as interim manager ends.
Liverpool legend who is now a football pundit, Robbie Fowler, said the Man United directors were right to sign Rangnick and made amends for their mistakes when appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as permanent manager.
“Fair play for Manchester United. I am constantly criticizing their owners and directors for what I see as mistakes, at times, of mixed thinking,” Fowler said in the Mirror.
“But the appointment of Rangnick as ‘caretaker’ seems a wise move and not only gives them a real choice over the course of the season and in the summer, but also overcomes past failures.”
“And with failure, I’m talking about the last time they sacked a manager mid-season and were forced to appoint a caretaker in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
“Look, I don’t mean to criticize him, I think he deserves respect for the work he did at Old Trafford under difficult circumstances, with that kind of emotional connection to the club and giving him a fair few months in charge.”
“He did brilliantly, at first, and really they had no choice but to give him the job on a permanent basis, despite doubts on his experience, taking on one of the greatest jobs in world football.”
“With hindsight, he never quite qualified for the role.”
Rangnick, in Fowler’s eyes, is considered the right person to provide a system of play at United and develop young talent from the academy.
“United have made it clear that they want to prefer the (Manchester) City or Liverpool route, with a manager who has a plan and is able to develop young players, adding value to his squad,” added Fowler.
“They tried, but how many times have they looked panicked and signed players who were totally against the plan, didn’t they? Too many.”
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest example, apparently because they don’t want him to go to City. It’s not a shared thought.”
“Rangnick is a coach who is highly respected by some of the best in Europe, like Marcelo Bielsa with Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino. Jurgen Klopp has great respect for him as do many other German coaches.”
“I know Gerard Houllier rates him very highly, as does Arsene Wenger. And I know that he is considered someone who is not only a very talented coach with modern ideas, but also someone who can improve the structure at a club, from a youth team. to the first team.”
“United have made a bit of a smart move, by getting someone who will bring in the organization they need, sort out the players that need sorting, develop some of the good young talent they have. And if he succeeds then they can give him the job permanently.” .
