Ralf Rangnick’s football philosophy
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United is looking into a new era with German manager Ralf Rangnick. The 63-year-old coach is contracted as interim manager until the end of the 2021-2022 season with a consultant role over the next two years.
Known as a gegenpress guru, Rangnick is highly regarded in Germany by Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann. In a relatively short time in the remainder of the 2021-2022 season, Rangnick is expected to be able to revive the team’s performance.
Rangnick came in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick. Rangnick has previously coached Hoffenheim, Schalke and RB Leipzig. His work in coaching United was awaited by fans.
Rangnick conducted his interview session with Man United. To Stewart Gardner, Man United reporter, Rangnick talked about the philosophy of football that he is trying to apply at a club that has won 20 Premier League titles.
While stressing the importance of game control in football, Rangnick tried to apply it at United and the team’s way of defending or controlling the ball.
“I mean, in football it’s all about control,” Rangnick said, in an open interview of Man United that was filmed at Old Trafford.
“If you want to win games you have to have control no matter if the other team has the ball or you have the ball yourself.”
“This is probably one of the main targets in the next few weeks, to help the team control the game, and at least against the top teams in the last few weeks.
“I saw the games against Liverpool and Manchester City, at Chelsea even though we won a point there, and even against a team like Watford, the team had no control. They have no control over the game and this is something we will try to achieve.
“Of course, it has to do with what we do when we have the ball ourselves, and what we will do when the other team has the ball. In those two areas, I think it’s important to develop the team in the next few weeks.
Rangnick is also aware that it is not easy to apply the football philosophy he is trying to apply to the team in a short time. Adaptation is needed and the use of video will be very important for players.
“On the other hand, we won’t have a lot of practice time, because we play every three days, so it’s about video recording, using video material as an important tool to develop the team, train the brain and at the same time encourage players to do the right thing.” Stated Rangnick.
“I think it’s important to win the game at the first opportunity, and then develop the team in the right direction step by step.”
