Ralf Rangnick’s training method revealed
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Only a few weeks later Ralf Rangnick was appointed as Manchester United coach to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, criticism and spotlight has been directed at him with United’s performance that is far from satisfactory.
There is so much negative news about Man United, from the changing room drama of those who want to leave, to players who don’t like the former Schalke and RB Leipzig coach’s coaching methods.
The last two games against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and Premier League have shown that there is something wrong with United in terms of the mentality and character of the team, especially in some individuals.
Reportedly the players did not fully agree with Rangnick from the way he implemented the training session. An overview of United’s training methods, which United players may not like, is given by former Schalke player, Tim Hoogland who has worked with Rangnick.
“Rangnick has clear rules in training. If you arrive in the second third of the pitch (midfield), you can’t play the ball back,” Hoogland told The Athletic.
“If you win the ball, the first instinct has to be to the opposing half, towards the opponent’s goal. Often in training, when we get the ball we will have, say, six or seven seconds to get a shot on goal. Otherwise, the other team gets the ball.”
“If you do things like that in training, you will do them in games. A lot of coaches and teams do things like this now, but 15, 20 years ago, it wasn’t common.”
“He changed the way we train, you don’t train because you want to train, you train because you have a clear vision of how it should be implemented in the game.”
Hoogland sees Rangnick as more than just a coach, half coach and half sporting director. No doubt the nickname Architecture was given to Rangnick in Germany.
“He’s always been a bit more of a coach. He is an excellent communicator, his knowledge is amazing, he has a very clear vision of how football should be played. He’s half coach, half sporting director. They call him Architect in Germany,” Hoogland added.
Before he can apply the style of play he wants to implement, Rangnick must first gain the respect of the players.
Reportedly, there was a joke in United’s changing room as they laughed when Rangnick came to the training camp at Carrington when they were given time off by the coach.
