Rangnick equals Manchester United’s record 118 years ago

By db-admin

DBasia.news – From two matches dealing with Manchester United in the Premier League, Ralf Rangnick has managed to equal a nick of more than a century at the club.

In total, the Red Devils have played three games with Rangnick, who arrived as interim manager at the beginning of December. There are two games in the Premier League and one game in the Champions League.

Of the three matches, Man United won twice and drew once. Both wins were won in the Premier League.

In succession, Manchester United won 1-0 over Crystal Palace in Rangnick’s first game. After a 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League, the Red Devils won 1-0 again in the Premier League when they visited Norwich.

With two wins in his first game in charge of Man United, Opta says Ralf Rangnick has equaled a record dating back from 118 years ago at the club. He became the second Manchester United manager to bring his team to a clean sheet in the first two Premier League matches.

Here are other notes in Manchester United’s victory over Norwich:

Ralf Rangnick is the second United manager to keep a clean sheet in his first two Premier League games after Ernest Mangnall in 1903.

–              Norwich have lost 9 of their last 11 Premier League meetings with Manchester United (2 wins), going on a four-game losing streak in the league for the first time since a streak of seven between December 1990-August 1993.

–              In the Premier League, Norwich City have lost more times against Manchester United than against any other team (15).

–              For the third time in club history, Norwich have lost five of their previous eight home games at the start of the league season, having done the same in 2019-20 (Premier League) and 1946-47 (Third Division South).

–              Cristiano Ronaldo became the third Manchester United player to score for three different managers (Solskjaer, Carrick, Rangnick) in one season, after James Hanson and Joe Spence in the 1926-27 season (Chapman, Hilditch, Bamlett).

–              Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was the 50th from the penalty spot for Manchester United in a home game. Only Liverpool (60) have scored more such goals in the history of the competition.
