Reaching 100th champions league match, Lewandowski passes Messi and Ronaldo’s goal record

DBasia.news – Bayern Munich’s pace is unstoppable in the 2021-2022 Champions League. Being in group E, the Bavarian giants have ensured a ticket to the top 16 of the Champions League with a clean sweep of four matches with a win.
Most recently, Bayern defeated Benfica at the Allianz Arena, Wednesday (03/11) am, WIB in the fourth match of Group E. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick (26′, 61′, 84′) and two other goals were scored by Serge Gnabry (32 ‘) and Leroy Sane (49′), who were reduced by goals from Morato (38′) and Darwin Nunez (74’).
Benfica scored twice from their two chances on target with 34% of the ball, while Bayern with 66% with 24 shots (12 on target).
“Today the game was a great thing from us, with players who were very well behaved and haven’t played much. I wouldn’t say it was a tough result, given the quality of Bayern, but it wasn’t easy,” Benfica coach Jorge Jesus told UEFA’s official website.
“They almost always scored four or five goals. We don’t leave here satisfied, but it’s not very normal to score two goals here. There are good things left for our strategy.”
The match against Barcelona will be very crucial for Benfica to keep their hopes of qualifying for the top 16. The reason is that after Bayern qualified, the remaining tickets were won by Barcelona, who now have six points and also Benfica with four points.
“We have to be pragmatic and objective. When it came to the draw, with Bayern and Barcelona, we were hardly expected to qualify. But given our quality, we still question Barca’s qualification.”
“We have chances just to depend on us. But one game at a time. First with Barcelona and then with Kiev.”
Robert Lewandowski’s Records
While Barca and Benfica are still fighting for the remaining ticket, Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern can relax a bit by rotating their squad in the remaining two games. Meanwhile Lewandowski made a special record.
The age of 33 is just a number on paper for the Polish striker. His goal coffers continued to grow after breaking Gerd Muller’s record in the Bundesliga last season.
The match against Benfica marked Lewandowski’s 100th game in the Champions League. He marked it with 81 goals and with the same number of games, Lewandowski defeated Lionel Messi (77 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (64 goals).
Ronaldo has only recorded 80 goals in the Champions League in the 116th game and Messi in the 102nd. In 2021 Lewandowski also played 49 matches with a record of 59 goals and nine assists.
“He (Lewandowski) plays a different sport, he is in a different league. He still has a few years left, he can catch them (Messi and Ronaldo),” said former Bayern striker Mario Gomez.
Lewandowski has also, according to Squawka, scored more goals (eight) than the 26 teams playing in the Champions League this season. Lewandowski’s hat trick also became his fourth in the Champions League.
Only three players have scored four or more times, the other two being Ronaldo (eight) and Messi (eight).
“In his 100th Champions League game he scored a hat-trick and provided an assist. Today he continued to show that he is currently one of the best strikers in the game,” said Giovanni van Bronckhorst, UEFA Technical Observer.
“He showed his pace and ability to run into space and finish with a good ball chip. A special night for him and a great performance.”
