DBasia.news – Real Madrid must step back from their dream of winning the 2020-2021 Spanish Super Cup trophy. Los Blancos’ move stopped at the hands of Athletic Bilbao in the semifinal match.

Playing at Estadio La Rosaleda, Friday (15/1) am, WIB, Madrid were defeated by a score of 1-2. They also failed to defend the title they won last season.

Madrid got their first chance in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, Eden Hazard’s hard shot from outside the penalty box still pointed straight at Bilbao goalkeeper, Unai Simon.

Seven minutes later, Madrid had another golden opportunity. This time it was Sergio Ramos’ header which Simon could still secure.

More pressure, Bilbao was actually able to steal a goal in the 18th minute. Raul Garcia escaped from an offside position, able to finish Dani Garcia’s bait.

Madrid increased the tempo of the game after falling behind. However, Zinedine Zidane’s team is still having trouble dismantling Bilbao’s defense.

Disaster for Madrid actually increased in the 38th minute. They received a penalty after Lucaz Vazquez violated Inigo Martinez in the forbidden box.

Raul Garcia, who advanced as a penalty taker, was able to do his job perfectly. He tricked Thibaut Courtois into scoring his second goal in this match and gave Bilbao a 2-0 lead until the first half ended.

After halftime, Zidane made a number of changes. He pulled out Raphael Varane to be replaced by Nacho Fernandez.

Zidane then also brought on Federico Valverde and Vinicus Junior midway through the second half. This was done to increase the power of the front line.

The change finally paid off in the 73rd minute. Karim Benzema broke into Bilbao’s goal from close range despite being checked by VAR.

Ten minutes later, Benzema successfully brought Madrid to equalize. However, this time his goal was disallowed by VAR for being offside.

Madrid continues to try hard to equalize in the rest of the match. But Bilbao’s tight defense has made it difficult for them.

During injury time, Madrid received a penalty after Sergio Ramos was dropped in the forbidden box. However, VAR continued to overturn that decision.

The 2-1 score for Bilbao’s win finally lasted until the game was over. The Basque team also has the right to advance to the final to challenge Barcelona.
