DBasia.news – RB Leipzig are one step away from qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League after causing Real Madrid to suffer their first defeat of the season.

With this win, Leipzig are second in Group F with nine points, one behind leaders Real Madrid and three ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk, who they will face in their final group game next week that will need a draw to guarantee them a draw to occupy the top two positions.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti rested several core players as Los Blancos had already booked a ticket to the knock-out phase.

The home side took the lead in the 13th minute with Josko Gvardiol finding the rebound from a Thibaut Courtois save after Andre Silva’s header.

Leipzig extended their lead five minutes later when David Raum tried to put a pass into the box, but the ball was deflected by a defender into the path of Christopher Nkunku who quickly reacted and fired on goal.

Vinicius Junior pulled the score back for Real Madrid just before half-time with a header that went just inside the left post.

However, Timo Werner’s strike from close range completed a quick counter-attack in the 81st minute put Leipzig 3-1 ahead.

After being fouled inside the box, Rodrygo scored from the penalty spot to reduce the loss to 3-2 in injury time.
