DBasia.news – The Portugal national team will meet Ghana in the first match of Group H of the 2022 World Cup. And Cristiano Ronaldo immediately became the spotlight during the match.
During the past week the 37-year-old megastar has continued to be discussed publicly after his interview with Piers Morgan caused a stir. Not only talking about Manchester United, Ronaldo also mentioned Ralf Rangnick, Wayne Rooney and Erik ten Hag.
In the end Man United chose to terminate his contract and Ronaldo agreed with them. Now the full focus of the owner of the five Ballon d’Or is only with the Portugal national team at the 2022 World Cup.
Portugal coach, Fernando Santos was asked about the matter regarding Ronaldo who has the potential to disrupt the national team’s preparations. Santos considered the news to be untrue and the news regarding Ronaldo did not disturb his team at all.
“Is that (regarding Ronaldo) going to take our focus away? No, it won’t. I haven’t even heard the players talk about it anytime here, in training, in their free time, when they are playing table football, not even Ronaldo himself,” said Santos.
“Maybe in their room they turn on the TV, they talk to their families, they do what they want.”
“But what’s important is the total focus I see on my players and the fantastic spirit, very much attuned to what they have to do, what our goals are, while at the same time being aware of the difficulties we will face because they have realistic targets.”
After bringing Portugal to win the 2016 European Cup, Santos also has dreams of winning the 2022 World Cup. He believes that the Portugal squad have the ability to make it happen.
“I have that ambition, the desire and the dream to win the World Cup. I believe we have the ability to fight for this goal. We want to give great joy to the people of Portugal,” concluded Santos.
