DBasia.news – Gary Cahill had satirized Maurizio Sarri, his former coach at Chelsea. The 33-year-old defender joked on regretting that he didn’t have the chance to be coached by Frank Lampard, the current Chelsea manager.
Lampard, 41, had just been appointed as Chelsea manager to replace Maurizio Sarri this season. When Lampard arrived, Cahill left on a free transfer after his contract ended at Chelsea and he now joins Crystal Palace.
As if to insinuate Sarri who rarely played him last season, Cahill joked that he regretted not being trained by Lampard.
“It’s a shame he (Lampard) wasn’t there (Chelsea) last season when I played there. No, I’m just kidding,” Cahill told talkSPORT.
“Working with him will be very interesting, especially when you have played with him and know what he is like, this will be an enjoyable experience.”
Cahill defended Chelsea for seven years (2012-2019). In his career, the season with Chelsea in the 2018/19 season had disappointed him as he was rarely played by Sarri. However, Cahill accepted that fate.
“It’s sad to leave Chelsea, but in the end everything has to end. The time is right for me to leave the club and I have nothing but positive things to talk about the club. There is no problem there, it’s just the right time to go.” expressed Cahill.
“Every season I perform a lot throughout my career and last season, I had difficulty doing it, so this says everything and this is the right time for me to go,” he explained.
