Senegal follows the Netherlands to the last 16

DBasia.news – Senegal managed to beat Ecuador with a score of 2-1 in the closing match of Group A for the 2022 World Cup at the Khalifa Stadium.

The Teranga Lions took the lead from the first half through Ismaila Sarr’s goal in the 44th minute via a penalty kick.

Ecuador equalized the score through Moises Caicedo in the 67th minute. But only four minutes later, Senegal locked in a victory through Kalidou Koulibaly’s goal.

With this result, Senegal finished as runners-up in Group A with a collection of six points. They accompany the Netherlands who are the group winners.

The last time Senegal penetrated the knockout stages of the World Cup was in the 2002 edition. At that time, coach Aliou Cisse was the team captain. They eliminated Sweden in the last 16 before being eliminated by Turkey in the quarter-finals.

Senegal will challenge England who won Group B in the last 16 at the Al Bayt Stadium, Monday (5/12).

This match was also the first meeting of the two teams in the international arena.
